Our company recently wrapped up a job in the Davenport Ranch neighborhood. Because we did such a good job, we were featured in their monthly Life in Davenport Social Magazine!
We were so excited, we decided we had to share the article with you. To find more articles, visit https://www.facebook.com/austindrna for more information.
From the April 2015 issue:
The Graham family, David and Dugie, contracted to have their roof replaced which included an innovative solar shingle product called the “Dow Powerhouse” solar roofing system in conjunction with hail- resistant asphalt roofing shingles. The entire project, which also included siding and trim repairs and painting, was completed by Ja-Mar Roofing & Sheet Metal in Austin who is the factory authorized dealer installer for the Dow Powerhouse solar roofing system. The solar shingle system that they selected is a 6 kw system that is designed to produce over 7500 kwh in the first year which will offset a large percentage of the power that they were buying from Austin Energy. The HOA reviewed and approved the application for the solar shingle system.
Ja-Mar Roofing installed the Dow Powerhouse system along with GAF “Armorshield 2” impact resistant shingles which qualify for the Texas Department of Insurance discount requirement for impact resistant roofing material. In addition, they will be covered by a GAF “Golden Pledge” 25 year anti-leak instal- lation warranty and a Lifetime material warranty.
Dow Powerhouse solar shingles have impact resistant glass and use thin film technology to generate the electricity that is then connected to an inverter. The inverter converts the DC power off the roof to AC power that is used in the home. They will also have a full-time monitoring system so they can see their electrical production which Dow Solar will also monitor.
David Graham said, “As an employee of The Dow Chemical Co, my wife and I moved to our current house in 1996. Later in my career I led the Corporations Sustainability Program during the strategic goal planning of the company. One such product inspired by these goals was and is the idea of a roof shingle with photo voltaic potential. My wife and I retired in 2008 and have enjoyed our decision to retain our home in Davenport as our retirement home.
“When Dow announced the availability of their Powerhouse Solar Shingles in Texas, we were excited to own a system for our home. We found Ja-Mar Roofing & Sheet Metal as the area distributor and met Don Garritano who manages the Dow Powerhouse Solar Shingle projects for Ja-Mar Roofing & Sheet Metal. Don has led us through the entire process of approvals and contracting. The entire process went very smoothly and safely. We have reduced our energy footprint with a new Eco efficient air condition system and about 6 kW of power from the Dow Powerhouse Shingles. It was the right thing to do and their extremely low profile gives an added esthetic value. “
